One day last November when I arrived home from work, in my kitchen with my husband was a whippet. I fell in love with her immediately.
She had no name, was under nourished, slept outside most of the time and her owner (who was an alcoholic) did not want her anymore – she was homeless so we rescued her. We named her Gypsy.
We took her to the vet for a health check, the vet said apart from the obvious (under nourished) she was in good health and he confirmed she was a whippet who was about 1 year old.
We new nothing at all about whippets so I did a lot of research and found that Gypsy had all the traits a whippet should have. The only thing I could never find was a whippet with the same markings (I have looked at hundreds of pictures). People always comment on how beautiful she is and how they have never seen a whippet with these markings.
I decided to contact some whippet breeders and sent some photos of Gypsy and the feedback I have had is that my whippet’s colour is from a border collie, so now the dog we rescued last November is a “lurcher” not a “whippet”.
Lurcher or whippet it doesn't matter, she is the most loving dog that one could ask for and I am so glad that this time last year my husband was in the right place at the right time or we would never had known her.
