He wasn't mine, he was my mum's,
yet over the years we were good chums,
when out alone, I told him my woes,
he listened intent, though he really did know,
that a man canny tell what he's feeling inside
but alone with a dog then you can confide,
what another man hears he will surely betray ,
in the case of a dog it's never that way.
Oh, Perry you were so gentle and kind ,
I often believed you were reading my mind,
cause although you can't talk, you knew by my sighs,
that you understood with these big spaniel eyes,
that my worries were eased with each step that we walked,
your loving looks were much better than talk.
So the man that I am its hard to conceive,
that now that your gone its easy to grieve,
although I cant show it, it's so hard to hide,
I would give a king's ransom to have you by my side.
For 15 years you listened to me
and through your eyes you helped me to see,
that love can be loyal and you were my friend ,
I wish I was there with you when it was the end.
But a man must be tough with a hard outer shell,
while really inside he is going through hell
but, Perry you taught me what I wont let them see,
when losing a friend then a man has to grieve.
