While on a search for a companion for our young greyhound Annabelle, the idea of getting a whippet kept entering my mind.
I was looking at other greyhounds to rescue but we have two young Manx cats that love to run around the house. I was concerned for their safety.
I decided to contact a few whippet breeders to see if they had any whippets to rescue. As I did my research I would follow each suggestion made by people as I spoke to them.
Eventually I talked with a woman who had two whippets and suggested I contact the breeder that she got hers from. The breeder spoke with me at length about whippets and felt the young male that she had to adopt out would not be a good match for our greyhound.
I said to her "Do you know of any females around 6 years old?" All of the sudden she said "you know, I just got an email from a woman who is a vet tech and has a 6 year old female that they saved because their previous owner couldn't keep her."
From there I contacted the woman and arranged to get Tillie. We drove 5 hours each way to get her about a month later. When we got her she was extremely skinny, very nervous and hyper, but also very sweet.
We crated her when we were away at first but she quickly got into the groove of our life and didn't need to crate anymore.
There was a little bit of jealousy from our greyhound at first but they quickly became fast friends and sisters.
Now Tillie is in great shape, has a large yard to chase bunnies around in with her sister Annabelle and eats so well I have to cut her food back sometimes for her not to get chubby.
We love her SO MUCH! It's her year anniversary with us today and she is 7 years old.
NOTE:
Although Tillie is not a puppy, we decided to enter her picture in the contest anyway because she is adopted, "new" to the household just like a puppy and her story is so interesting.
