Firs of all, my best friend had a whippet and we, me and my boyfriend, were looking for a dog, our first pet together.
When we first saw whippets running over an openfield, with that glit of "fight" in their eyes, we knew that it was going to be best dog for us.
We took a 6 hour long train ride across Denmark to get to the best whippet kennel in Denmark. We had picked out our pup weeks before, and when we saw him we knew we had made he right choice. We took him home, 6 hours in train, and he slept all the way.
We had read alot about whippets and their lack of courage amongst other bigger dogs, which play in a more violent and rough way. We didn't really know if our dog ( which hadn't been given a name by then) would be like some have written they were, we hoped not.
We had been waiting for our new dogs personality to show, before we would give him a proper name. We shouldn't wait long :)
On the second day we had him we went down to what probably is Denmark's biggest dogpark and let him lose. He emmediatly ran to the other dogs. And what a spirit ! He took on a 99 kg male mastiff ! He bit it's tail and legs to play with it ( even though it didn't really care about the chihuahua sized A.D.H.D pup running around it's big paws)
He keept on bouncing back, when he was pushed over, barked and growled. He had so much spirit and courage no dog or anything could take out of him. Even more, he used his front legs to fight with in his play, so his name stood very clear " Punchy"
His favorite dog at that time was a french bulldog. They played in a very violent way, just like Punchy liked it.
Our picture is from his first playday with other dogs, he was so glad and had so much spirit. And now about 1 and a half year later he still got that courage which shows on the running track.
