Is This a Stafford Whippet Mix?
by Peter
(Europe)
Hi, we got our pet from the shelter and he's now 7 months but vet says almost full grown.
He is about 40cm and 10 kg.
Do you think it is a mix Stafford with whippet or something else?
What breed do you think ?

Is it a Whippet?
by Kristy Bartholomew
(Bainbridge NY)
Gracie Roo (roo for the kangaroo ears) was found by a cop in the Bronx NY tied to a tree for 6 days.
We adopted her right from his house on my street! She is the love of our lives.
We are her faithful loyal service humans.
Vet says she's a PLAB (pit/yellow lab mix) but we think there is some whippet in there for sure.
What do you think?
Possibly Whippet?
Got my dog from the animal shelter where they told me she was a husky/lab mix but as she grew up she looks more like a whippet than anything else.
Gertrude...She's a rude dude!
by Megin
(Georgia)
Gertrude is now eight months old!
We got her from the humane society when she was a little under four months.
Her brother was there also and he was all black.
The people at the humane society says she's a mountain cur but on further research and watching her grow I believe she is a whippet mix.
Yet I am unsure of what she is mixed with...terrier? Hound? Mountain Cur?
Any suggestions?
She is very head strong and vocal. She plays well with our two male cats.
She sleeps under the covers with us but I'm not sure if it's because our eight year old beagle/blue tick taught her.
She is extremely shy around strangers. She is extremely bitey as well.
Other than that she does whatever else dogs/pups do i.e. get into things, high energy, goofy.
Whippet Mix: What Kind of Dog do I Have?
face
We rescued an abandoned dog and do not know what breed she is.
Is she part Whippet? Here is a picture of her.
We do not know how old she is but her teeth are perfect and very white as most puppies are.
She does not chew up anything in the house, she is rather docile while inside. She's fast enough to catch the squirrels and eat them.
Hoping to find some answers.
Whippet/Beagle Cross?
by Jenny
(Vancouver, Canada)
We just adopted this beautiful little girl. We were told that she is a beagle/whippet cross but we are unsure. Does anyone out there have any ideas as to what she could be?
We don't care either way cause we already love her. She is 18 months or so and we have only had her for 2 months.
She is a beautifully tempered, gentle, active and loving dog. No aggressive behavior ever witnessed and seems to be a very well adjusted and sweet girl.
Is She a Whippet Mix?
by Audri
(Swannanoa, NC, USA)
Got our new love at the shelter (of course) and all they had to say about her was "hound mix" which I thought was ridiculous, based both on her appearance and the fact that she hardly ever barks!
We've had guesses ranging from whippet and greyhound to pitbull, plott hound, staffordshire terrier and German shepherd.
We'd like to know more so we could be alert to any breed-specific health issues (and just out of curiosity).
Any ideas on what kind of Whippet mix Mana Girl is?
by Travis
(Honolulu, HI)
ManaGirl
I adopted Mana Girl from the Hawaiian Humane Society back in Sept. 2001, they said she was about a 3 month old Pitbull Mix.
As the years went by and her body shape matured, her vet said she not a Pit at all but a Whippet. But after reading up on Whippets,it looks like she's a little too big to be pure Whippet, also her muzzle isn't as long and tapered, and she also has a kind of sharp dome shaped peak centered on the top of her head.
Any ideas on what kind of mix she is?
Just Adopted - What Kind of Whippet Mix is This?
by Kair
(Sacramento, CA)
Hi there!
We just adopted a 3 month old whippet mix and she is the sweetest thing.
Would anyone know what kind of mix she is? She definitely has the whippet body but her face is a little different (not as narrow/long)?
Any help is much appreciated! Thank you!
Whippet mix or podengo?
by Alisa
(Washington DC)
Pinky
Hi, Pinky is a rescue success story.
When the rescue group found her in SW Virginia, she was only 9 months old, dehydrated, underweight, and had flea, tick, and worm infestations. She was found with her sister/littermate, who was also abused.
We were matched with her through the rescue group as a potential companion dog for our male greyhound. We were looking for a smaller breed dog to match.
We were thrilled to find Pinky--she is the third sighthound we've welcomed in our family. I am just not sure what breed of sighthound she is.
Some say she's a whippet/terrier mix; but I think she may be podengo medio (Smooth coat)as well. She is slightly smaller framed than her littermate, which makes me believe she was the runt.
She will be 3 years old in April (approx.) since we really don't know when she was born. She is currently about 25 pounds. She is somewhat reserved around strangers, but is deeply attached the family. She is somewhat a watch dog, too, as she only barks when there's others approaching the house.
Finally, we enjoy boating on the Potomac river, and Pinky loves to accompany us and she loves to swim!
I am wondering what do others think? Thanks!
Whippet Mix: Any Idea What Mix Kody Is???
by Kate
(Denair, CA)
I just rescued Kody from the shelter.
It's been my dream to own a whippet... and although Kody does appear to be mixed with something else... he still won my heart!
He LOVES to snuggle under blankets and plays with his rear straight in the air while his front half is down on the ground ready to pounce... like a cat!
He's a ton of fun, definitely a bit bossy whether he's telling his toys not to put up a fight or trying to tell me what I should be doing but he is sensitive to loud voices and has been easy to train with play/treat rewards.
Any idea what he's been crossed with? The shelter thought Queensland Healer... but I'm just not sure about that. They also said he was 6 months old... he seems a bit younger, but again, not sure.
Help Identify Echo's Mix, Please!
by Rebecca
(Lebanon, MO USA)
This is Echo, I found her wandering around as a stray when she was probably 6-8weeks old. She's now just over a year old and weighs almost 20lbs. I thought she was a chihuahua rat terrier cross but someone mentioned she might have whippet in her. I'm not so sure, she's really small...what do you think?
She is very active and agile, has a great sense of smell, and runs extremely fast, commonly outrunning my GSD mix and Lab mix, and she's an excellent swimmer.
When she's really interested in something, her ears perk up until just the tips are hanging down. If she really wants me to pet her(or if she really wants the treat I'm about to give her), she'll stare at me with her ears tucked all the way back until it looks like she has no ears.
Whippet and Something: Maybe Sheltie or Border Collie?
by Donna
(Maryland)
Whippet Mix?
We just adopted Margo. She was found in a West Virginia Kill Shelter. One look in those eyes and I knew she was coming home to her new pack.
After reading about the whippet traits, I am convinced she is mostly whippet with something else. She is only 7 or 8 lbs and has the look of a border collie.
Any ideas on little Margo?
Is Dash a Whippet Mix or a Lurcher?
by Roger Cook
(Milton Keynes, UK)
Dash the Lookout.
Here is the story of our whippet mix Dash.
During 2005 and after the death of Harry, our Greyhound, we decided to purchase our family's third dog.
We decided that we liked the greyhound breed, but also thought that a smaller dog would be easier for us. We therefore decided to purchase a whippet.
Our local dog rescue center, happened to have a fully grown whippet by the name of Dash. Dash soon settled in and became a much loved pet. The only problem was that he kept growing and growing! Some 4/5 years later he stands at 22.5 inch shoulder height.
Whatever he is, it does not matter, he's our pet dog. On the other hand, we would like to know what he is. We get asked so many times what breed he is!
Is he a whippet, a greyhound/whippet cross, or some thing else?
Are you able to help us?
Many thanks.
Best regards
Roger Cook.
Whippet Mix Or Not?
by Alex
(Detroit, MI)
We saved Maya from a animal shelter and we're really debating on what her actual breed mix is.
Vets have told us terrier/lab mix but its been hard to believe. My brother has two terriers and they don't look or act alike.
Her running gait is very fast and she's lean somewhat like a greyhound. Her weight is 35 lbs. and she's very energetic.
In this picture shes about 9 months. She might be a Whippet Mix, please help!
Any Idea What Mix my Dog is?
by Betsy
(Nebraska)
I adopted my girl Ikeda from the local shelter in June. She was listed as a shepherd mix on her petfinder profile, but I think she has more qualities of a whippet.
She is about a year old, weighs 37 pounds, and is brindle colored but with a jacket like a shepherd. She LOVES to run, so her favorite place is the dog park, but she also likes being a couch potato.
She hates being left alone and bonded quickly with my older shepherd/husky mix Enzo. If she sees something she wants to chase, nothing else exists in her mind. She has short fur but with a fuzzy undercoat, which I don't think whippets have.
Any thoughts?
Whippet or not?
by Colleen
(Essex, Maryland )
I rescued Jack last May 2009, he was walking the streets and even after posting, no one claimed him. I thought he was a mix of Jack Russell and rat terrier maybe more. He burrows under the covers all the time, runs like the dickens, never seen such a fast dog. He also jumps higher than the fence, trying to control that part daily..
He loves other dogs, not too fond of cats. He even trembles every once in awhile, and hiccups..
Someone in the park the other day said he may be a Whippet mix. never heard of the breed. He has a big chest, his tail is long with a bit of a curl.
Any ideas???
Whippet Mix: Here is my Sweetheart Stoli.
I was working at the humane society and he was just three months old at the time. He is now three.
I've done a lot of research on whippets and he has a lot of the personality traits. Not sure what else he is. Maybe border collie or lab?
Whippet Mix

(Raliegh nc)
Can anyone tell me, without her parents DNA, can I test my dog's DNA and for sure find out what breed her parents are?
ANSWER:
You just need a sample from your dog.
To take a sample for the test is easy for you and painless for the dog, you just need to take a cheek swab.
In the test kit are included simple instructions to take your sample correctly.

Whippet Mix: Can You Tell by Appearance ?
I have 2 sisters that are just over 2 years old and when I adopted them, I was told they were Whippets.
Well, a Whippet doesn't get to be 48 lbs or 60 lbs, so I am trying to get a better understanding about what they may be mixed with, so I can find a good weight that they should be at.
Both dogs have their own characteristics, one is normally smaller than the other.
I am hoping that someone may see what they are mixed with by their appearances, I was told it could be either, greyhound, collie or a borzoi, what do you think ?
NOTE:
Interesting puzzle. Please, try again to send the picture!

Is My Dog a Whippet Mix?
by Angel Gerow
(Los Angeles, ca)
Found my dog Laika abounded in Phoenix, AZ.
People say she has a body of a whippet.
She is 15 pounds with yellow eyes.
Whippet mix: Remmy
This is Remmy December 11the 2012
This is Remmy when she had Mange the first time
This was the day we found out she had mange :(
This is August 25th 2012..the day we brought her home <3
We adopted our "whippet" pup Remmy on August 25th 2012.
We brought her home and we took her right to our vet.
She had worms, ear infections, kennel cough, fleas, ticks and a skin infection.
After treating Rem for all of her problems, she was as good as new.
Remmy was so easy to train, she listens well and is very smart.
We noticed maybe a month later she was losing some of her hair.
We took her straight to the vet and we were told she has demodex mange.
We were so upset and worried..it was a rough two months of medication, her being depressed and she ended up losing all of her hair.
After the two months she was doing great!
She got all of her hair back! She was playing and everything!
After about a month of her feeling better, she started loosing her hair again.
We took her back to the vet and the vet said she still has demodex mange.
We are so sad that she has to go through this again. But we love this dog more then anything and we are going to stick with it and take the best care of her possible.
So after I told you the story about our amazing pup Remmy... I was wondering if you could possibly tell me if you know what she is mixed with.
She definitely has the whippet tail and body but her head is a little wider then regular whippets.
I hope this story made sense! I have always been terrible at telling stories!
Cheers!
Whippet Mix Adopted from Spain, now Living in The Netherlands
by Mendra
(The Netherlands)
Mendra, comes from the color Almendra (almond in Spanish). She's a great, hyper bitch.
We have adopted her from a rescue organization in Spain and she is about 2 years old.
She weights 37 lbs and she's 18.5 inches tall.
She runs like an hyena, you know the African wild beasts!
She loves to cuddle and loves the sun!
The organization that we adopted her from told us that she was a boxer/pinscher mix. But introducing her to our vet, he told us this would probably be a staffy/ whippet mix.
Can you guys tell what breeds you see in her?
Is My New Pup a Whippet Mix?
by Lain
(Greenville, NC)
Just adopted this sweet boy and have no idea what he is! The adoption center said he was a golden retriever mix, but I see no golden in him.. He looks like a lab/whippet mix or even terrier. And after multiple people wondering if he was a whippet mix (before me even saying the word "whippet"), I figured he may have that breed in him!
For a puppy of (estimated) 6 months, he is the sweetest and calmest dog! Indoors, all he wants to do is sleep or cuddle.. not too interested in toys, just would rather snuggle on the couch or bed forever. So hard to get him off them!! He is pretty timid now, but that may be due to him being new to our home.
He also has a spotted nose, or "butterfly nose", and has this same skin depigmentation on the pads of his paws and belly. He has an "irish spotting" coat, where his paws and up his legs, his snout and up his nose, the tip of his tail, and his chest and scruff are all white.
His tail and legs are really long compared to his body. He is pretty fast and when running, he prances!
He seems like he is always hungry and searching for food, which may again be due to the fact he was just adopted and they may have not fed him much at the shelter.
Can anyone help?? I am so curious and would love to know! I have a hard time identifying his body type.
Is Charlie a Whippet Cross??
What do you guys think? Is Charlie a whippet cross Jack Russell?
My Dad rescued Charlie for me about 6 years ago from some people that couldn't take care of him. They told my Dad that he was Jack Russell cross butut I never knew with what.
He has really long legs for a Jack Russell and a long snout. My guess is that he has whippet in him. I would love to hear some peoples opinion.

Possible Whippet Combai Mix
by Suze
(Vancouver WA)
We adopted a whippet mix from Kauai HI. They can't tell us much, she was a stray.
She looks 90% whippet, so whatever the mix, it's similar to a sighthound.
I researched and the Combai dog breed and our dog looks very similar.

Winona the Whipador?
by Lydia
( North Carolina)
I got Winona in October of 2018 after my cousin and fiancee found her and what we believe were her three sisters on the side of the road in Eastern North Carolina.
My boyfriend and I had discussed getting a second dog and when I met her I knew she was going to be coming home with me. She looked around four months old and definitely a lab mix - I assumed she was mixed with some kind of hunting hound as well due to her characteristics and smaller size.
A few people had told me she looked like a whippet and when I googled "lab whippet mix" I was blown away. It was like I found her long lost family! I had no idea what a "whipador" was but my online research quickly convinced me I just may have a whipador living in my house. Haha!
Winona definitely has the lab coat - she is currently shedding like crazy.
She is more of a barker than not. She is also insanely protective and loving towards me. She brought me her first kill (a baby bunny) the other week which she was so proud of - even though I was a little shocked.
My boyfriend said he could tell she would be dangerous to small prey so I guess that is the whippet showing. She loves to run and when she gets the zoomies I don't know that I have ever seen a faster dog. She does seem to have some social anxiety - she is not a big fan of new things or small children and she does not like being away from me for a second longer than necessary.
It has been only about 9 months since she came into my life and I can not imagine life without her. She is playful, she is smart, she is loving, she is very food motivated which has made training her very easy and god she loves to run! I ran one 5k with her and she definitely thought I was going way too slow.
I still want to do a doggy DNA test to confirm what she is but judging from all that I have recently read about whipadors and the many lovely pups I have seen photos of I can't imagine her being anything else!
Also for more cute photos feel free to follow Winona's instagram: @princess_winona_

Is he a Whippet Mix?

I got him last month, he was a rescue from a jack Russell place. They think he is mixed with greyhound or whippet. Thoughts?
Whippet or Not Whippet....That is the Question!
by Mary
(California)
Our Gunner boy was found on the streets, no chip or tags, couldn't find owner, so we took him in.
We thought he was a little underweight, but now that we've had him for a little over a month, I can't seem to get any weight on him.
He's been to the vet to be fixed & run labs, everything proved he was healthy, but 5 of his spinal discs are always showing along with a few of his ribs.
The vet was NO help for shedding some light on his type, only labeled him as "mix breed" (ya thanks! We knew that much! LOL)
For being a skinnier dog, he is MUSCLE!
If you saw me walking him, you'd think I had an 80 lbs pit bull at the other end of the leash! And BOY can he run!! Or should I say FLY!
When he really gets going he likes to spring into the air while casing out his surroundings.
Great, smart, lovable dog, but still needs some training. He has 1 ear that stands up & 1 that flops down, and when he lays out he's very LONG. He currently weighs in at 27 lbs.
I just want to find out WHAT he is so I have a better idea of his "ideal" weight, without the cost of a DNA test (& I'm also leery about spending the money for bogus results, know what I mean?)
